Desireé Hershon – Visionary Artist
What does it mean to be a visionary artist? I believe a visionary is one who can see beyond the ordinary. As an artist, I strive to peek beyond the veils of ordinary reality to uncover the magic of women’s experience. As a Color of Woman™ teacher, my greatest joy is to inspire women to travel beyond the veils to get to their place of magic and potential transformation.
I have spent the better part of my life studying and observing people, and have come to believe that one of the greatest challenges we share as human beings is to live in a state of awareness. Being creatively engaged requires your full attention and awareness. Therefore, I feel we are in our most juicy and alive state when we are enjoying life as an intentionally creative act.
For me, the act of painting is to travel between the world of the mundane and that of the mystical. As a Visionary Artist, I approach the canvas with a specific intention. And then with color, texture, ritual, and meditation/visualization, I allow images to emerge from the portal of my mind. My works in acrylic are created in layers – each one informed and unfolding from the last. Each is a subconscious journey and connection to Source.
I believe the telling of women’s stories is not only important, but essential to creating and sustaining balance in the world. Our voices should be heard, and our images held sacred. My paintings reveal my own stories through color, symbol, and image. My goal is to inspire women to reveal their stories… of truth, beauty, darkness, and courage by exploring their own internal sacred space and by reconnecting to the wisdom and creative gifts of their deep Inner Feminine Selves.
Desireé Hershon is a Visionary Artist in the Contemporary Symbolist Movement, a Certified Teacher of the Color of Woman™ method, and Intentional Creativity Coach. She has facilitated ritual and priestessed women’s circles in the Dallas area for over 15 years.
