Our Philosophy

“Each woman has potential access to Rio Abajo Rio, this river beneath the river. She arrives there through deep meditation, dance, writing, painting, prayer making, singing, drumming, active imagination, or any activity which requires an intense altered consciousness. A woman arrives in this world-between worlds through yearning and by seeking something she can see just out of the corner of her eye. She arrives there by deeply creative acts, through intentional solitude, and by practice of any of the arts.”

–Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Here at Sacred River Art, every person is considered a creative being, and personal creative expression, a human right — whether that expression is through painting, singing, cooking a yummy meal, dancing out your soul’s fire, drumming, writing, crafting… whatevah!   Engaging in creative acts is necessary for our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.  This ‘river beneath the river‘ is our deep inner creative flow, and when it gets clogged or dammed up, our lives start to feel stagnant as well.  There are a multitude of ways to get the flow going.  Try out one you like… dip your toe in the river.  And if you find you like it, well…. dive deep!
